Wainwright's Coast To Coast
This classic long-distance 190 mile route
from St Bees Head in Cumbria to Robin Hood's Bay on the North Yorkshire
coast, devised by Wainwright in 1972, traverses what he described
as 'the grandest territory in the North of England. Two thirds of
the walk lie within three National Parks and today Wainwright's
achievement is regarded by many as the finest long trek in Britain.
Wainwright's Highlands & Islands
of Scotland
"Shows the best the North West Highlands
of Scotland (still) offer ... captures the vast open spaces, the
silence, the emptiness and the sheer beauty of the scenery of places
like Torridon and Sutherland - indeed landscapes so beautiful that
it hurts." "Makes a real nice gift for the elderly, who
are now 'grounded' but who, in their more energetic years, loved
to roam the braes and glens and know what Wainwright means when
he says (about Sutherland) "when away from it, it calls."
Wainwright's Lakeland
Wainwright recreates his love affair with
Lakeland, first discovered as a young man on holiday in a "week
that changed my life", and revisits Orrest Head, Kendal, Borrowdale
and Haystacks.
Wainwright's North Country
An exploration of the North Country including
the valley of Teesdale on the Pennine Way, Howgill Fells, Penyghent
and the Limestone Country of North Yorkshire.
